The Little Library

For libraries & the families who use them

A library shelf for the stories kids write themselves.

Once upon a real library shelf — an 8-year-old snuck his handwritten book in, and it became a five-year waitlist. Read the true story →

Not just a place to read — a place to be shelved. Kids write and illustrate their own stories, you post one link, and their books sit right alongside everyone else's, checked out again and again.

Where this started

A boy, a composition notebook, and a library barcode.

A kid wrote and illustrated his own story — drawings on top, his handwriting underneath, the way you'd fill in one of those school notebooks. He brought it to his local library. The librarian gave it a barcode and shelved it like any other book.

It became locally famous. Other kids kept checking it out, again and again — not because it was polished, but because it was his, and it was real, and it was there, on the shelf, waiting to be picked.

That's the whole idea. We just built the shelf.

How it works

No accounts for kids, nothing to install, nothing for your IT team to maintain.

STEP ONE

A kid writes & draws

A story, a few pages, drawn and written the way they already do it — paper, crayon, their own handwriting.

STEP TWO

A photo shelves it

A parent or teacher snaps a photo of each page and adds it — it's on the shelf in under a minute.

STEP THREE

Anyone can check it out

Just like a real library book — a due-date card, a checkout count, the small thrill of being read.

Try it right now

This is the real, working shelf — not a mockup. Open a book, flip through it, or check one out.

What this means for your library

The short version: it's one link on your resources page. Here's what usually comes up.

What does our IT team need to do?
Nothing. It's a single link you add wherever you'd put any other outside resource — nothing to install, host, or maintain on your end.
Who's responsible for it?
I built and run it, and I'm the point of contact for anything that comes up — see below.
What about the photos and stories kids post?
Everything posted is visible to anyone with the link. I review new stories and can remove anything, anytime, on request.
What does it cost?
Nothing — free to your library and free to families, with no ads.
